Zaid was sacked from Umno on Tuesday after being seen in the company of opposition leaders and at their events.

He was at the opening of PKR congress last Saturday. On Friday night, he had attended a DAP dinner in Penang.

Yesterday Pakatan Rakyat leader Anwar Ibrahim said that he would welcome Zaid into any of the opposition parties, however adding that he would allow Zaid to take his time to make a decision.

Doubtful of any reforms in Umno

Addressing the media for the first time after his sacking, Zaid said this morning that he has become a victim of double-standards in Umno.

"I don't think I was sacked for being at the PKR meeting," he said, adding that it could be due to some Umno leaders being unable to accept his ideas on reforms.

He was also asked if reforms in Umno were possible, to which he said:"I doubt they can."

"But Umno will have a new leader in March...I may be wrong," he added.

Zaid was accompanied by his wife at the 40-minute press conference held at the Tropicana Golf Club, located very close to the PKR headquarters.

However Zaid said there is nothing to be read in this.

"It is just that this place is close to my home and easy for my wife to come (to)," he said - malaysiakini.com
