Naked protestors to stalk Selangor MB Khalid

Malaysiakini's report:

Activists are threatening to strip naked and "stalk" the Selangor menteri besar in protest against a hike in public housing rental rates, drawing criticism from Muslim leaders.

Ramlan Abu Bakar of the Malaysian People's Reform Movement (Reformis), whose members are men aged between 33 and 50, said they have formed a "Dare to be Nude Squad" to carry out the protest, the Star daily reported.

"We wanted a police permit to strip in front of the state secretariat as a sign of protest but we were denied it, so now we will stalk the (Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim) and go butt-naked when we get the chance," Ramlan told the paper.

He said the group was protesting the state government's decision in July to more than double the rental of low-cost housing in opposition-controlled Selangor, from RM124 to RM250 ringgit, saying most families could not afford the rental hike.

Police report lodged against MB

Conservative Islamic groups in this Muslim-majority nation have slammed the nude protest plan.

Islamic party PAS, which is part of the opposition alliance, criticised the plans earlier this month, with its spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat saying only "uncivilised" people would resort to such an act.

"Even an animal like a cow which is stark naked, God created a tail to hide its genitals and here we are talking about human beings who have been given a mind," he told state news agency Bernama.

Ramlan said his group had also filed a police report and lodged a complaint with the state's graft busters over the chief minister's hosting of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's PKR party congress in the state last weekend -
