PM to defend division post - Malaysiakini

Malaysiakini's report:

A day after announcing his departure plan, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said that he had no plans to take a holiday as he had much to do in the next five months.

He also said that he would be defending his Kepala Batas Umno division chief post.

Abdullah further said that he hoped to proceed with all the reforms that he had mooted since he came to power in 2003.

There is no reason why these reforms should stop, he told reporters after attending a function in Petaling Jaya today.

Yesterday Abdullah announced that he would not be defending his Umno president post and would hand over power to his deputy Najib Abdul Razak in March.

Najib is widely tipped to become the next Umno president without any hassle in the party polls next March.

A confident Khairy

Also present at the same press conference as Abdullah today was his son-in-law and Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who is aspiring to lead the Youth wing, said that his chances to win the post would not diminish as a result of Abdullah's decision to stand down.

He also said that Abdullah had arrived at his decision in order to keep Umno united and for the sake of Umno's interest.

He however remained sceptical if the problems in the party would be solved with a leadership change. - Malaysiakini.com

An interesting read would be Haris Ibrahim and Lilian's articles. Is Badawi really going or is he just fakin' it?
