Mahathir wants to retain the NEP - (ref. malaysiakini)

The old man just won't shut up!

The Star reports:

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia should retain the 30% bumiputra equity in public-listed companies as the objectives of the New Economic Policy (NEP) have not been achieved yet, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said it is not the right time to adjust the country’s overall economic policies because the target to help bumiputra Malays reach 30% ownership of the country’s wealth has not been reached.

He seems to refuse to acknowledge that the NEP have only benefited rich Bumiputras like himself while the poor Bumis are still poor!

There are poor Bumis, poor Chinese, and poor Indians! Why a class based system (subsidies, discounts and benefits for poor Malaysians instead of rich Bumis) is rejected is ridiculous! Why help the rich when there are so many poor!
