One of Malaysia's highest Islamic bodies has banned females from dressing or behaving like men and engaging in lesbian sex, saying it was forbidden by the religion.
The National Fatwa Council late Thursday issued its ruling following a two-day meeting that discussed recent cases of young women apparently behaving like men and exhibiting homosexual tendencies, state news agency Bernama reported.
Council chairperson Abdul Shukor Husin told Bernama many young women admired the way men dress, behave and socialise, violating human nature and denying their feminity.
Forbidden and banned
"It is unacceptable to see women who love the male lifestyle including dressing in the clothes men wear," Abdul Shukor was quoted as saying.
"(Masculine behaviour) becomes clearer when they start to have sex with someone of the same gender, that is woman and woman," he said.
"In view of this, the National Fatwa Council which met today have decided and taken the stand that such acts are forbidden and banned," he said.
Male homosexuality, considered against the order of nature, is illegal in Malaysia but lawyers say female homosexuality is technically permissible as there are no provisions for it under the law.
The Fatwa Council does not have jurisdiction in civil law, but the ruling appears to be an attempt to push female homosexuality towards illegality.

I don't know what sort of 'crime' homosexuality is. Who does it hurt or harm? Who is the victim? Why would people have issue with what people do in their houses or in their own private domains?

It hurts any religion and God.
Homosexuality / lesbianism - a crime against Allah. These crimes are clearly stated in the Quran. The people of the city of Sadom & Gammorah (including the wife of the Holy Prophet, Lut alaihissalam)was left behind, and were destroyed as punishment from Allah.

kher: Weighing the rights of human beings, and 'religion and God', I simply cannot see how something that is not compulsory on anyone (freedom of religion by the Constitution) should be enforced over the rights of a human being (right to privacy by the Constitution).
And not ALL religion is against homosexuality.
Dear vchi, I I stand corrected but the National Fatwa Council's decisions or rulings are only applicable and binding on Muslims only!
They can keep on issuing verdict after verdict... but sadly the enforcement side is another story altogether. It is just a reminder to Muslims not to condone such acts which are against Islamic teachings.
If I recall correctly, there was a fatwa issued ages ago proclaiming that smoking is considered HARAM.... so If you are a muslim and you chose to go against the ruling, it is between you and God. The authorities can take action... but as I had stated earlier, enforcement is another matter. The bottomline is that is all up to your Iman.
superstage: You are absolutely correct. I got a bit sidetracked on the National Fatwa Council's jurisdiction.
