Chew Mei Fun today became the new MCA Wanita chief when she won the post uncontested during nominations for party polls.
She will be replacing Dr Ng Yen Yen, who will be contesting for the vice-president's post at the party elections this Saturday.
Also winning a post uncontested was Wee Ka Siong, who takes over the Youth wing as of today. He replaced Liow Tiong Lai who will also be contesting for the vice-president's post.
Chew was the deputy chief in the Wanita movement while Wee assumed the post of the Youth wing's secretary before today.
As for Liow and Ng, they would be contesting in an eight-corner fight for the vice-president's post.
The other contestants for the vice-president's post are incumbent Fong Chan Onn, former vice-president Yap Pian Hon, Deputy Home Minister Chor Chee Heung, Kuala Langat MCA division vice-chairman Lim Teck Chong, Johor deputy chief Tan Kok Hong and Deputy Finance Minister Kong Cho Ha.
The candidates for the deputy post are former vice president Dr Chua Soi Lek, incumbent vice-president Donald Lim, current party secretary general Ong Ka Chuan and a former Penang state assemblyperson Lee Hack Teik.
Ng stands to become a record-maker by being the first woman vice-president if she wins one of the three slots.
Present deputy Chan Kong Choy will not be defending his post.The fight for the president's post is a straight fight between another former vice-president Chua Jui Ming and present vice-president Ong Tee Keat.
Incumbent president Ong Ka Ting will not be defending his position.
Meanwhile a whopping number of 80 candidates will be vying for 25 slots in the central committee. This is touted as the closest contest for the post in the party's history.
