MIC's three members of parliament will not ditch Barisan Nasional to join Pakatan Rakyat, said the party's information chief M Saravanan today.
"Switching camps has never crossed the minds of any MIC MPs. We will not cross over to the opposition. We are staying put and no matter what happens, we will be with BN in good as well as bad times.
"I have spoken to the other two MPs and they have denied that the thought had even crossed their minds," he was quoted as saying in Bernama today.
Saravanan, one of the three MIC MPs, was responding to a news report in Malaysiakini yesterday which quoted Perak PAS commissioner Ahmad Awang as saying that several MPs from the MIC and MCA would join Pakatan soon.
All three MIC MPs hold government positions.
The MIC MPs are Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam (Segamat), Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department SK Devamany (Cameron Highlands) and Deputy Federal Territories Minister Saravanan (Tapah).
"If they (the opposition) are so sure that we would jump ship, why not reveal the list of names anyway. Then we can see if the list is true or otherwise.
"Saying we would abandon ship is one way the opposition hopes to create distrust among BN component parties. That kind of politics is outdated and will not work," said Saravanan.
Saravanan also lambasted Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim for having one deadline after another to topple the BN government.
"He must realise that the people are fed-up with his antics," he said.
Saravanan said that Anwar should instead start performing his duties as an effective opposition leader and put the country's interest before his political interest.- Malaysiakini.com
Anwar's bluff or MIC's bluff?
